Welcome to the webpage of our research group, the Laboratory of Electronic Structure of Materials (Laboratorio de Estructura Electrónica de Materiales, or LEEM). We belong to the Materials Science Institute of Barcelona (ICMAB), one of the centers in the Spanish Research Council (CSIC).

Our group's interests cover a wide range of topics, the common denominator being the use of electronic structure simulation tools. The expertise of the group members goes from semi-empirical electronic structure methods, such as the extended Hückel and tight binding schemes, to first-principles approaches. In particular, we are one of the nodes participating in the continued development of the SIESTA first-principles package.

Our group has strong ties to the Theory and Simulation Group at ICN2, and often research projects are the result of collaborations among the two groups.
